Fair Havens Ministries/Fair Glen OCE (Outdoor Christian Education) is currently taking applicants for its internship program. The program is designed for Christian young adults, ages 18-25, to train future leaders in camp ministry or related fields as well as to provide our retreat centre with valuable assistance in many areas of operation, program and ministry. Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic and the ability to teach students individually. There will be up to 5 interns in this program. While we will consider candidates for internships in other departments, our primary focus for the internship is OCE.

Interns will...

  • Be teaching and assisting, mainly, in the OCE program.
  • Gain valuable hands on ministry experience.
  • Increase their knowledge of personal skills and spiritual gifts.
  • Interact with guests in a teaching/retreat setting. 
  • Discover their ministry calling. 
  • Gain intimate knowledge of what it takes to operate a camp and retreat centre. 
  • Gain an understanding of the purpose and mission of a camp and retreat centre. 
  • Learn basic living skills.
  • Grow and mature in their personal walk with Jesus Christ through learning, living, and leading.

OCE

  • Outdoor leadership/teaching experience under Brian MacTavish — OCE Director through the Outdoor Christian Education program.
  • Guest students primarily from Ontario private Christian Schools Grades 4-8, but may range K-12 and include some day-use Public/Catholic schools and homeschooling groups.
  • Hands on experience leading students in a variety of activities including, High Ropes, Low Ropes, Wall Climbing, Canoeing, Team Building Activities, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, and many more.
  • Learn many aspects of the outdoors while leading: Maple Syrup, Animal Tracks, Wilderness Survival, Pond Study, and much more.

Spiritual Formation / Community Life

  • Overnight wilderness canoe trip.
  • Volunteer work in the community.
  • Team building activities.
  • Spiritual Formation events such as: weekly Bible study.
  • Involvement in a local church.
  • Building relationships and caring for your intern family.

A bi-weekly stipend of $150 will be provided for each intern. Room and board on-site residence and uniforms will be covered by Fair Havens. Meals will be provided whenever we are serving meals for guests. Transportation to scheduled community events and shopping will be provided. Grocery money and a kitchen will be provided when there are no guests on grounds.
