Stepping Stones Application Form 2007

stepping stones
provides five different enrolment opportunities for youth (ages 14 yrs to 25 yrs) with lengths of term ranging from 3 weeks up to 4 months. These enrolment opportunities (ChIP, SIT, STAND, Frontline and CORE) work together to progressively impact youth as they develop. Brief descriptions of each enrolment opportunity and service roles are found in the pages to follow.  All those involved with stepping stones participate and learn through Training, Service Roles, and Community.

Training:

All stepping stones participants will learn a variety of God, and ministry focused material through a variety of different methods.  Each enrolment level has different degrees of depth of content, areas of emphasis, and level of accountability related to the learning experience.  Structured learning will take place mainly through small groups, instructor-led teaching sessions, and personal readings. Some levels of enrollment will have a higher degree of instructor-led curriculum while others are more self-directed in nature. As individuals progress through stepping stones they will be given the opportunity to learn both theoretically and practically.

Service Roles:
stepping stones
participants make up the summer student staffing for Fair Havens Ministries.  Each person plays an important part in ministering to the thousands of guests that come on grounds.  The varied service roles that the youth work in are also an important learning experience.   It is during these times of practical services that the stepping stones participants put into practice many of the things that have learned, learn many new skills, and make a lasting impact in the lives of the guests.

stepping stones students will be able to apply for a wide variety of service opportunities including:  Food Services, Guest Services (housekeeping/custodial), Maintenance, Camp Counseling, Children’s Ministry, Skills Instructing, Canoe Tripping, Lifeguarding and more.

Each level of enrolment has different service role opportunities and has different expectations for the maturity and competency displayed by the staff.  The service experience will be used to train students under the leadership of service placement supervisors in different areas of technical skills as well as encourage growth in learning to lead as servants.  (please refer to the service role section for details on the service opportunities)

Community:
One of the advantages of the stepping stones experience is the community that is formed over the summer.  The stepping stones community is made up of over one hundred staff which are closely working, living and worshipping together.  The community is one of Christian fellowship and seeks to encourage the growth of those in it.

Part of the community experience involves mentoring and accountability relationships, friendships that last for years to come, and ton and tons of fun, all of which aid in the personal growth of those involved.

Just some of the opportunities that summer staff may have in this community are:
Joining one of our Praise & Prayer Worship Teams
Joining one of he staff sports teams (Baseball & Soccer)

Being part of the Merry Heart Show (a staff produced variety show)
Attend numerous chapels featuring high quality speakers.

provides five enrolment opportunities for students (ages 14 to 25 years) ranging in terms from 3 weeks and up to 4 months.

Program content consists of a blend of training (instructor led and/or self-directed) and service work, as the summer staff for Fair Havens Family Camp & Bible Conference, Fair Glen Youth Camp and Fair Glen Outdoor Christian Education Centre. The different levels of enrolment have been designed to provide strategic training and character development for each specific age group.

Each participant will be involved in accountability and mentoring relationships, providing encouraging peer-to-peer and effective leader-student support. This helps ensure that all students receive the care and nurturing that will allow them to grow in a stretching, yet safe environment.

Students will receive formal and informal evaluation feedback for both training and service work experiences. This information can be provided to local church pastors or leaders at the consent of the student; providing foundations on which they can plan follow up training and service opportunities, for the students.
